About Emerging Coders

Emerging Coders is a community for FGLI (First-generation, Low-income) students who are interested in Tech. Our purpose is to enable students in the club improve their skills (e.g., coding projects, networking etc.), provide mentorship and resources throughout your college experience, and to create meaningful projects.

We host workshops, networking events, and provide resources to help students succeed in their tech careers. Join us to connect with peers who share similar backgrounds and aspirations.

What We Do At Emerging Coders

Creating a community of diverse technologists through mentorship, education, and support.

Mentorship

We provide mentorship and support for underrepresented groups within Northwestern's Computer Science community. Our inclusive space welcomes students of all majors and backgrounds to learn and grow together.

Technical Development

We deliver accessible and inclusive technical opportunities through workshops, speaker events, and collaborative projects that help our members grow as developers, engineers, designers, and product managers.

Establish Community

We foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive community where members can lean on one another for support and guidance through their academic and professional journeys.

What is Emerging Coders?

Emerging Coders is a community for FGLI (First-generation, Low-income) students who are interested in Tech. Our purpose is to enable students in the club to improve their skills (e.g., coding projects, networking etc.), provide mentorship and resources throughout your college experience, and to create meaningful projects.

Do I need to show up to every event to be a member of Emerging Coders?

There is not strict requirement for anyone to be considered to be a member of Emerging Coders. We welcome anyone who is interested in learning more about the technology industry and is willing to learn and grow with us! Feel free to come to any of our events and workshops as you please to learn more about us and what we do!

How do I join Emerging Coders?

Becoming a Member of Emerging Coders is easy! We don't have any requirements or applications to join our community. The best way of joining is to join our GroupMe or to follow us on Instagram @nuemergingcoders.

What does Emerging Coders Do?

As a club, we aim to provide resources, opportunities, and experiences related to the Technology industry for our members and community. We do this by hosting events, workshops, and projects throughout the academic year. In the past, we have done panels with Northwestern students who have had industry experience in technology, LeetCode workshops, community building socials, and so much more!

What are some ways to get involved with Emerging Coders?

There are many ways to get involved with Emerging Coders! You can join our GroupMe, follow us on Instagram, attend our events. We also have a newsletter that you can subscribe to to stay up to date with our events and opportunities (look at the linktree on our Instagram). If you want to be more involed, you can apply to our Junior Executive Board or apply to be a mentor/mentee for our Mentorship Program.

I have an idea for a project/event/collaboration, how can I get help from Emerging Coders?

If you have an idea/proposal or generally something that you think will be worthwhile, we are all ears! We are open to any type of opportunity and if you want to lead an event, just reach out to us!
